How to Beat the August Heat

While our Northern friends may be feeling the first stirrings of Fall, we’re sweating it out in classic North Florida style. Here’s our local’s guide to beating August heat on 30A, from local sweet treats to cold retreats…

SWEET [COLD] TREATS

Jambo’s| Blue Mountain Beach | Authentic Frozen Italian Lemonade made with pure, organic fruits and cane sugar. Find it in front of For the Health of It.

The Creamery | Blue Mountain Beach | Ice cream from the front, shakes and concretes from the Shake Shack (on the side).

Dawson’s | Seaside | Frozen yogurt, soft-serve, and fudge!

The Sugar Shak | Rosemary Beach | Serving up all kinds of sweets (ice cream, snow cones, every candy imaginable) since 1999.

Nigels | Watersound Origins & Seaside | Chocolate dipped bananas, ice cream bars, cheesecake and key lime pie. P.S. it’s vegan and gluten-free friendly.

ACTIVITIES

Catch a Movie | Pier Park, Grand Boulevard, Destin Commons | May we suggest a matinee? Insider info: Pier Park and Destin Commons both have reclining seats, but Grand Boulevard has reliably fresh popcorn.

Rosemary Beach Splash Pad | Near St. Augustine Green | A great place for littles to run around and cool off.

Early Walks on Nature Trails | Grayton Beach State Park | Trails run throughout state parks, which buffer nearly all of 30A, but Grayton Beach State Park is a particularly beautiful trail. We recommend heading out before 10:00AM.

Staycation at Camp Creek Inn | Camp Creek | Enjoy Watersound Club Membership Amenities during your stay, like the adult pool and lazy river.

Hop on a Boat | Panama City, Bay, Destin | Whether you’re heading to Shell Island, exploring the Choctawhatchee Bay, or heading to Crab Island, hitting the water is an easy way to beat the heat.

COLD BEVERAGES

Pescado’s | Rosemary Beach | Opt for the rooftop for views of the Gulf.

Bud & Alley’s | Seaside Beach | Grab a beverage and enjoy the gulf breeze.

Fonville Press | Alys Beach | Enjoy a beverage barside — either indoors or out.

Raw & Juicy | Alys Beach | Great for a midday cocktail. Everyone raves about their carrot margaritas. Yes, really. Plus, their patio is always very breezy.

North Beach Social | Santa Rosa Beach | Grab a drink and let the kids play in the shallows of the Bay.
